• OBJECTIVE:

    The ideology behind MindSpark’s B-Plan is to foster entrepreneurship among the young generation of India and to provide a stage to showcase emerging business ideas in various sectors. Main objective of the event is to present a formal business plan for a venture which is financially sustainable, logically feasible and has a social or an environmental cause incorporated in its mission.


    Rules

    The last date of submission of detailed report and solution to the problem statement has been extended to 26th of September. (23:59 hrs)

    Regarding the format of mail:
    Participants should mail their BPlan report and their solutions in .pdf format only.
    Subject of their mail should be their Business title along with their receipt number.
    Body of the mail must contain all the details of their team members (name,college,year etc)

    Mails should be sent to the following email id:

     

    1. The event will be held mainly in 2 stages:

    1st round: The participants will be sent a small questionnaire consisting of some real life situations. Participants are expected to submit their answers along with an executive summary of their business plan (preferably not more than 4 pages) as well as their complete B-Plan Document together by the given deadline, based upon which the panel will decide the final list of teams which will participate on the event day.

    2nd round: Finalized 12 teams will present on the day of the competition. Presentations of            maximum 15 minutes duration are expected and about 5 minutes are reserved for queries.    Presentations (soft copies) should be brought on a CD and USB drive in standard formats on the day of the competition by the participants. The power point presentations must be in the 97-2003 format.

     

    2. Elimination Pattern

    The elimination will be based upon the submitted answers to the questionnaire, executive summary and complete b-plan document as per the scoring. A panel of members will choose the top 12 business plans based on following criteria of the executive summary and the b-plan:

    1) How critical the problem is

    2) Innovativeness

    3) Overall Concept

    4) Viability

    5) Marketing Strategies

    6) Future and Exit

     

    3.Team Structure

    1.Each team can have a maximum of 4 participants.

    2.Team members may or may not be of the same college.

    3.The event is open for students of any B-school and Engineering college.

    4.A person cannot be a member of more than 1 team in the same Event.

     

    4. General Rules:

    1. Persons from different institutions can be a part of the same team. However,             one person cannot be a part of multiple teams for the same event.
    2. Rules may be changed without prior intimation. Participants are requested to check the website for updates.

    FAQs

    1) What is the Format for the Executive Summary?

    An executive summary is a brief summary which portrays the overall Business Idea. It contains all major and crucial information about the venture. It must include following points:

    1. The concept and its innovativeness

    2. Market situation

    3. Marketing Strategy

    4. SWOT analysis

    5. Financial Analysis

    6. Revenue and growth potential

    The summary should not exceed 4 pages.

     

    2) What is the General Outline for B-Plan expected?

    1. Cover: All sorts of contact details with a centralized contact.

    2. Title Page: The page should contain the business name, centralized contact details and the name and email addresses of the principal owners.

    3) On what criteria are the teams shortlisted for presentation in the 2nd round?

    A panel of members consisting of E-cell members,faculty and person in the field of management or business sits together and assess the plans on the basis of following:

    2) Innovativeness

    3) Overall concept

    4) Viability

    5) Marketing strategies

    6) Future and exit

     

    4) Can the members of a team be from different colleges?

    Yes. But 1 person cannot be a member of 2 different teams.

     

    5) Can we register after our abstracts have been selected for the 2nd round?

    No you have to register compulsorily before you send your documents.

     

    6) Can we send the executive summary first and business plan document a few days later?

    No. Both the documents have to be sent together as 2 separate attachments.

     

    7) What happens if we’re also participating in other events at MindSpark?

    The organizers will not take responsibility for clashes with the participants’ time schedules. No adjustments will be made with the event schedule.

    8 ) Should the business idea be something related to the problem statements?

    The businesss idea is to be selected by the participants themselves and it can be anything irrespective of the two problem statements. Problem statements are just to check logical reasoning of the participants.

    • Paper must be in IEEE format.

    • Paper should be essentially in a two column format.

    • Abstract should not exceed 1 page and Paper should not exceed 15 pages.

    • Title pages, tables of contents, and bibliographies shall not be counted toward the limit.

    • Paper must be preceded by a cover page specifying the title of the paper, names of authors, college names, contact numbers, email ids and receipt number.

    • Paper must contain index, abstract, introduction, point wise description of subject and conclusion and references at the end.

    • Teams should not reveal their identity anywhere in the submission apart from the cover page.

    • Mention the receipt number given during your registration in the first page.

    • Photographs should be treated as being equivalent to figures, with the caption being placed at the bottom of the photograph. Photocopies of photographs are not acceptable.

    • All papers should have a bibliography/works-cited page and appropriate footnotes.

    • Papers omitting a bibliography or using plagiarized material will be automatically disqualified.

    Q. Can I send paper for two or more number of themes?

    A: Yes, you can. But for that you have to register that much number of times.

    Q. I belong to a different branch, can I participate?

    Ans: Any student pursuing bachelor’s degree of engineering can apply. If you are interested in the topics, you are free to apply. There is no restriction on branch or year of study.

    Q. I have participated in other events of Mind-spark, so can I apply?

    Ans: You are allowed to take part in every event of Mind –spark, provided you manage your

    event timings.

    Q. Are short videos permitted to be shown during the presentation?

    Ans: Yes, you are allowed to show short videos, but make sure that you complete your presentation in given 10 minutes including video. No extra time will be provided for videos.

    Q. How will I get to know if my paper has been selected for final rounds?

    Ans. Participants whose papers will be shortlisted shall be informed personally through mail.

    Q, Can I change the paper after I have been selected for the finals?

    A: Yes, a deadline will be given for that. A consent will have to be taken from us in form of an e-mail prior to any changes, but the TOPIC cant be changed.

    Q, Is an M Tech student eligible to take part? OR Am I eligible to take part?

    A: All engineering students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate in paper presentation competition. M. Tech. students are not allowed to take part.

    Q, How much time will be allotted to present?

    A: The time allotted for each team is 10 + 2 minutes. After 10 mins a warning bell will

    ring and after 2 mins a final bell will ring. There will be negative marking in case of

    time violation.

    This event is aimed at fostering interest in research work and presentation skills among students.The participants can choose one or more topic/theme and prepare a presentation covering all the engineering aspects of the topic.The finalists are shortlisted based on the abstract submitted by them prior to the final event.The presentations are evaluated on their content, originality, flow of the presentation, communication skills and co-ordination among group members.


    Rules

    • Paper must be in IEEE format. Refer the download tab for a detailed explanation of the format.
    • The last date for submission of abstract for all paper presentations is 23rd September 2012.
    • Abstract should not exceed 1 page and Paper should not exceed 15 pages.
    • The subject of the mail with the attached abstract and the final paper should be the discipline under which the paper is categorized.

    • If your paper is selected for presentation, you are allowed to make some changes to the paper, if need be before submitting again. Please refer to the deadlines below for explanation.
