Introduction to the Event:

Reliability of structures is of utmost importance, as the failure of structural system cannot be tolerated. It is very essential for the site engineer to get the feel of concrete materials and concrete by continuous checks on workability, cohesiveness, finished surface and most importantly on strength. In this event we expect the concrete to achieve maximum strength to satisfy the modern day needs like high rise buildings, long span bridges, use of thinner compact members in construction etc. This event is for the young engineers to acquire the art of designing concrete mixes.

Permissible ingredients of the concrete:

1.     Cement: a) OPC    b) PPC

2.     Sand

3.     Khadi (Aggregates)

4.     Water

5.     Admixtures

6.     Plasticizers

7.     Cementatious material etc.

(Please specify all the materials which are used)

·  No fibers are allowed

·  No steel materials are allowed

Strength of the concrete:

The compressive strength of the cube after 7 days should be 70 Mpa.

Dimensions of the cube:

The dimensions of the cube should be 150mm x 150mm x 150mm.

Judging Criteria:

1.  As per IS standards the cubes will be tested at the age of 7 days.

2. The primary judging criteria will be the average compressive strength of the 3 cubes.

3. The secondary judging criteria will be the cost or the economy.

4.     Only Pond curing is allowed(at room temp.). Steam curing or accelerated curing or any other curing is not allowed.

5.     Winning criteria will be decided as per the following :

  • Average strength of three cubes should be 70Mpa.
  • Variation of compressive strength of the three cubes should be minimum.
  • In case of a tie, cement content will be considered.
  • Teams have to submit design procedure i.e. concrete mix design with all details of quantities of materials used (Aggregates, cement, admixtures etc. ).

5.     Date of  testing will be displayed by suitable means and will be put up on web-site.

5. Worksheet is expected with each entry. The worksheet should be certified by the HOD of the Civil Department of the respective college.

Rules:

1.     A team should consist of maximum 2 participants.

2.     Participants cannot submit more than 1 entry.

3.     From a college more than 1 team can participate.

4.     Last date of registration is 24th Sept.,2008.

5.     Date of  testing will be displayed by suitable means and will be put up on web-site.

6.     Date of casting should be 24th/25th Sept.,2008 and should be prescribed on the worksheet certified by the H.O.D.

7.     The testing will be conducted in the Concrete Technology lab of College of Engineering, Pune.

8.     Decision of the judges will be final.

* If any of the constraints or rules is not followed the entry will be disqualified.

Entry Fees:-  Rs. 50/- per team.
