Introduction

This year’s Mind-Spark will have a theme based Paper Presentation competition. Following are the Rules, Regulations and the themes.

GROUPS:

The paper presentation will be conducted in five groups. The groups are-

·         Mechanical and Production

·         Civil

·         Computer and IT

·         Metallurgy

·         Electrical, Instrumentation and ENTC

The selected papers will be divided in the above five groups based on the content of the paper

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  1. Participants must choose only one theme and present their paper on only one relevant topic.
  2. Innovativeness of the topic under a particular theme will be given credit.
  3. Original contribution to the paper will be appreciated.
  4. Only pure technical papers would be considered for short listing.
  5. Use your discretion to judge whether your topic fits into the chosen theme.
  6. Opening paragraph of abstract should state the link between the paper topic and the theme chosen.

  RULES:

There will be 2 rounds-

  1. Eliminations
  2. Finals
Eliminations:

For screening, a pre-event abstract and the paper, in standard format has to be

submitted. The paper should mailed at -paperpresentation@mind-spark.org

Any number of teams from a college can submit their papers.

Standard Paper format:             

·         Font size - 12

·         Font - Times New Roman

·         1.5 line spacing

·         Soft copy should be in Microsoft Office (97 to 2003)

Abstract should not exceed 1.5 pages and Paper should not exceed 15 pages.

The mail format should be as follows

·         Paper must be preceded by a cover page specifying the title of the paper, college name, name of authors, branch, telephone numbers and e-mail id.

·         Subject of the mail should be the discipline under which the paper is categorized.

·         The mail should contain:

1.  Title – Theme of the paper.

2.  Name – Of both  authors

3.  Phone no - Of both authors

4.  Email id - Of both  authors

5.  Postal add – Of both  authors

6.  Paper and Abstract as attachments.

Finals:

·         A review committee will scrutinize the abstracts and the accepted papers will be intimated to the authors.

·         Short listed teams will be informed by mail or by telephone. A list of selected teams will be displayed on the website.

·         Short listed teams will be eligible to present their papers.

·         All rights are  reserved to the organizers to change any or all of the above rules .

·          All changes will be highlighted on the website and registered participants will be informed by e-mail.

·         The decision of the judges and the organizers will be final and mandatory.

·         No changes in the soft copy will be entertained.

BASIC PRESENTATION RULES:

The timing system will proceed as follows:

·         A signal will be given at the beginning of the presentation.

·         A warning signal will be given at the end of 10 minutes

·         A stop signal will be given at the end of 12 minutes. The student should stop speaking when the stop signal is given. The judges will assess negative marking if the participant continues to speak beyond the 12 minute time limit.

·         3 minutes will be reserved for the question-answer session.

The following equipment will ordinarily be available:

o   Computer with MS-Office-2003 provided with CD drive and USB port. Floppies will not be accepted.

o   LCD projector and screen

o   Overhead projector

o   Podium

o   Blackboard.

o   Laser pointer

·         The presentation should preferably be made using Microsoft Office 2003 applications. If otherwise, bring the set-up of the software you require.

·         Writing board, writing materials shall also be provided during the event.

·         Participants are required to submit 3 hard copies and one soft copy of their paper at the time of reporting.

 
TEAM SPECIFICATIONS:

Maximum  2 authors are permitted per paper.

ELIGIBILITY:

All engineering students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate in paper presentation competition. M. Tech. students are not allowed to take part.

REGISTRATION:

Registration fee for the event is Rs.100. The amount can be paid in cash or Demand draft.

*“Comfort & Entertainment” is only a sample theme. Papers based on this theme would be rejected.
